Audition process for children between the ages of four and nine

This audition helps evaluate auditory perception and level of retention through a series of rhythmic dictations. These allow us to determine various factors: musical exposure at home, participation in choral or other musical activities in school, and the innate affinity for music.
To appreciate their sense of pitch, both relative and absolute, we ask the child to listen to a note or a melody on the piano and then repeat it using their voice, in a register they are comfortable with.
The children generally find the rhythic dictation easy to reproduce, especially as we begin with simple sequences to encourage confidence. Then we gradually increase the difficulty so that the child experiences more of a challenge.
