Violin workshops with Andres Mostajo

As part of a collaboration between Iberacademy and Bolivia Clásica, Bolivian Clásica alum Andres Mostajo returned to Bolivia from Colombia in November and December of 2025 to lead violin workshops in Samaipata, Cochabamba, and La Paz. These sessions focused on developing the fundamental techniques of young students.

In Samaipata, in the department of Santa Cruz, Andrés was brought in to work with string students at CAPI – Centro Artístico Pedagógico Integral, a cultural centre which supports educational and artistic activities in the city of Samaipata, primarily in the areas of year-round education, educational resources, and the promotion of educational projects and cultural activities in the region.

In the outskirts of Cochabamba, we collaborated with the social project Proyecto Orquestal Wayra, where Andres worked directly with young violin and viola students. The Wayra Orchestral Project was created within the Estrellas en la Calle Foundation to form a string orchestra with children and teenagers from the Cerro Verde area of Cochabamba, offering them alternative lifestyles through music and allowing them to learn an instrument.

In La Paz, Andres collaborated with our Clave Sol teachers, coaching Clave Sol orchestral students from La Paz and El Alto, as well as students from other musical projects over a period of several weeks. He also performed Vivaldi’s Four Seasons with them at the end-of-year Christmas concerts.

Cielo (2024)

We are very proud to have played a significant role in the production of CIELO, a British-Bolivian feature film. Shot in 2023 and starring 8-year-old Fernanda Gutierrez, a Bolivia Clasica violin student, with a score by Bolivian composer Cergio Prudencio and involving top Bolivian musicians, this extraordinary movie has garnered awards worldwide on the Festival circuit.

TakuApu Festival (2024)

Having been invited to discover the wonders of Samaipata and subsequently developing a close relationship with CAPI (Centro Artistico Pedagogico Integral), Bolivia Clásica spearheaded the creation of a new festival. We started by securing the donation of a brand new grand piano for the town, enabling all kinds of musical activities, and in July of 2024 we launched the TakuApu Festival with a series of concerts, workshops, and street theatre. We reunited the Bolivia Clásica Chamber Orchestra with alumni and guest artists arriving from all over Bolivia, South America and Europe, and commissioned a new theatre work for the occasion, involving local actors and directors, as well as the brass band from the beautiful local church.

We included street theatre at our first TakuApu festival, commissioning a play by Alejandro Molina.

As well as the creation of a bespoke mural under the guidance of renowned Bolivian artist Cecilia Wilde.

And a Traditional Music workshop for local children, under the guidance of Manuel Castellanos.

Tengo el agrado de anunciarles que una gran especialista en formación artística, la actriz y directora de teatro, Verónica Armaza, se ha integrado al equipo de Bolivia Clásica. Verónica se hará cargo de nuestra escuela de música, como directora, trabajando mano a mano con el director artístico de nuestra orquesta, Armando Vera Woudstra y con nuestra administradora, Jimena Huayllucu.

Esperamos que, bajo el liderazgo de Verónica Armaza, Bolivia Clásica podrá reconectar con sus raíces, recreando el programa de cuartetos, fortaleciendo el intercambio cultural y su presencia en La Paz y El Alto, y a la vez extender su alcance e innovar la manera de enseñar música, integrando distintos géneros, como el Jazz y el Folklore y nuevos elementos, como el Teatro.

Hemos pasado momentos muy difíciles por la pandemia del Covid-19. Ha sido un desafío, sobre todo para nuestros profesores y alumnos, adaptarse a la nueva realidad virtual, con todas sus limitaciones. Pero quisiéramos rescatar lo mejor de las nuevas tecnologías de comunicación. Estamos desarrollando una plataforma virtual para la escuela que potenciará nuestros esfuerzos educativos globales y contribuirá a mejorar la organización y el control de calidad. A la vez, buscamos una nueva sede para nuestras actividades presenciales, que incluirán Iniciación Y Formación Musical.

Hay mucho por hacer, y nos estamos poniendo las pilas. Pronto estaremos lanzando nuevas convocatorias y los esperaremos.

Anteriormente Verónica Armaza implementó por primera vez en Bolivia la Formación Superior Artística en el Sistema Educativo; durante ocho años, logró crear las carreras artísticas de Música, Danza, Teatro, Artes Plásticas y Cinematografía, en sus niveles Técnico Medio, Técnico Superior y Licenciatura, además de dirigir la Compañía Pequeño Teatro de Bolivia, el programa “Somos Una”, en contra de la violencia, y la Secretaría Ejecutiva de la Organización Artistas de Vanguardia – Arte, Cultura y Educación.

“Me siento inspirada en ser parte de este excelente proyecto de Bolivia Clásica, fomentar la creatividad para encaminar nuevos rumbos artísticos y sobretodo de apuntalar el futuro de las artes en Bolivia, tengo la seguridad que dicho proyecto va transformar la Formación y Educación Artística del Estado Plurinacional de Bolivia”.
